  • As chair of the board of Fishin' for a Cure, I want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support over the years. Your dedication has been instrumental in making a significant impact on countless lives through our vision: Every Catch Counts. Since the inception of Fishin’ for a Cure, we have brought in over 1.4 million dollars.

Fishin’ for a Cure has also had an enormous impact on funding critical research, generating approximately $240,000 over the lifetime of our partnership with Earlier.org. This includes a $40,000 Named Grant in 2022 at Dana Farber Cancer Institute (Boston, MA) for “An Ultrasensitive Blood Test for LINE-1 ORF1p for Breast Cancer Detection” led by Drs. Kathleen Burns and David Walt. Our tremendous support accounts for six $40,000 research seed grants, representing nearly 5% of the lifetime grant funding of earlier.org - Friends for an Earlier Breast Cancer Test. Supporting Fishin’ for a Cure means directly empowering the individuals diligently working to identify earlier detection methods for breast cancer.

Through our partnership with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, we have been able to provide over 32,000 free mammograms, and over 75,000 patients have been seen. In the past five years alone (2019-2023), Fishin’ for a Cure’s support has enabled Kay Yow to offer 10,035 free mammograms and serve 15,036 patients, directly impacting the underserved. Through the empowerment tour, we have made connections with students and families to begin critical conversations to break down barriers to access to healthcare.

Our partnership with Little Pink Houses of Hope has made a direct impact on breast cancer patients and their families through our support of their week-long retreat model. Grants since inception have totaled $150,000 and has allowed Emerald Isle to host an annual retreat for 285 individuals. Our funding has provided housing, meals, activities, and travel assistance for those with demonstrated need. Our support has reached beyond Emerald Isle to support retreat communities across the North Carolina coast. Retreats are designed to give patients a chance to reconnect and gain strength during the physically, emotionally and financially exhausting cancer journey.

We have provided Hope Fund scholarships to several individuals fighting the battle and are eager to continue expanding this program to those in need. Please guide them directly to our website to apply for funding.

Thank you for being an integral part of our journey. Together, we are making a difference, one catch at a time.

    With Sincere Appreciation,

    Krystal Tyndall

Achievements and Impact

Fishin' For A Cure was created in 2013. Originally, Fishin' For A Cure began with a small group of women who wanted to take their friend, recently diagnosed with breast cancer, fishing. Over time the group of supportive friends grew and grew.

In its first year, 2013, Fishin' For A Cure, the organization raised over $21,000 to support local non-profit organizations. In 2022, we reached our goal of $1,000,000.

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, friends for an earlier breast cancer test (earlier.org) and Little Pink Houses of Hope have been recipients of these funds. In 2014, Fishin’ For A Cure established a hope fund. This money is earmarked specifically for those who may need assistance during their cancer journey.
